My my My my
Welcome to South Charlotte Recreation Association!

May 29, 2020

SCRA Families,

In light of the COVID-19 crisis and the CMS field use restrictions placed on our Association, the SCRA Board has made the difficult decision to cancel our Spring 2020 recreational baseball and softball seasons. We understand that other area associations may be able to play, but their fields are not governed under the CMS Community Use restrictions. The Board has spent a lot of time considering options and contemplating alternative season play, but at this time it has become clear that we will be unable to play any part of a spring recreational season. We are hopeful that the unprecedented restrictions placed on our daily lives will be lifted so that our kids can come back in the fall to play the youth sports they love. We look forward to seeing you all then!

As we have already disclosed, unfortunately, prior to the season being postponed and then cancelled, SCRA incurred expenses to get baseball and softball up and running. Since the crisis began, we have taken steps to minimize our expenses moving forward in any way possible, such as limiting field maintenance to mowing every other week and minimal care of the fields. However, much of the spring registration money has already been spent and cannot be recouped. As a non-profit, SCRA does not maintain a huge excess of cash in our budget. Likewise, baseball is SCRA’s biggest sport and this season we had approximately 650 kids register to play. The financial impact of cancelling this season is huge.

SCRA’s normal refund policy is that refunds will not be issued once your child is assigned to a team; however, the Board understands that your children only had the opportunity to practice with their teams a few times before the season ended. Given the expenses paid out in advance of starting the season, we are unable to issue full refunds. After looking at our budget and considering the financial impact on our Association, we are able to provide a 50% refund. This applies to each child registered for the spring season. We are hopeful that you will consider foregoing this option and allow your registration fee to be converted to a charitable donation to SCRA so that we can continue to maintain our fields and equipment, and remain in a financially stable position for future seasons. If you elect this option, SCRA will provide you with a 501(c)(3) contribution letter for tax purposes. Please consider donating your spring registration fees as we want to ensure that SCRA can continue to serve the South Charlotte community for years to come.

In order to request a refund, please email southcharlotterec@gmail.com. We request that all elections be made by June 10, 2020 so that we can process your request in a timely manner. If you fail to make an election by this date, we will consider your registration fee to be a donation to SCRA.

Thank you all so much for your patience and understanding as we navigate through these difficult times together.
