My my My my

Welcome to South Charlotte Patriots Football!

Update (Aug 8, 2020): Given Gov. Cooper's decision to keep our state under Phase II restrictions, our local tackle football league -- the Pop Warner Little Panthers -- has announced the cancellation of our season, which impacts the entire PW Charlotte area. There is an alternative available for 7v7. We are working on details with other associations so please start thinking about which direction you would like to follow: (1) participate in 7v7, (2) keep any paid funds in your account to apply to a future sports season, or (3) refund of paid funds. A broadcast message will be sent to registered families with these options. We will start planning for a potential reopening in late fall for flag football or further out into the spring.

Update (July 30, 2020): SCRA football registration will be held open as we get into August. We are awaiting Gov. Cooper's announcement on August 7th that will determine if we stay in Phase II or move into a less restrictive Phase III. This will ultimately drive many decisions in our league regarding next steps, so please continue to be patient with us as we work to save our season of play for our kids.

Update (July 16, 2020): SCRA football registration is open and players are encouraged to reserve their roster spot with our "$0 Hold My Spot" fee. Given the uncertainty due to the COVID pandemic, we believe this warrants no registration fee with the balance due before the distribution of equipment for the season. For those players who have already registered, your registration would be refunded in the event of a season cancellation before the purchase of game jerseys. Thereafter, refunds would be net of the jersey cost, which your player keeps. Please do not hesitate to contact our Football Director, , with any questions or concerns.

Are You Ready for Some Football?

South Charlotte sure is! We have worked long and hard to find the right organization to associate with, that holds our values of fun, good sportsmanship and the necessity of being a scholar-athlete, with the emphasis on "scholar".

Our choice was to join the Pop Warner Football Association. Besides being around for 75 years and well respected, they share a common philosophy regarding children and sports, in particular football: fun, safety, learning, development, and a focus on scholastics. Children are required to play in their own age and weight bracket.

We play under the local association of Pop Warner called the Pop Warner Little Panthers. More information on our league can be found at www.popwarnerlittlepanthers.org

Pop Warner General Program Information

Pop Warner Football has been around since the inception of the league in 1929 by founder Joseph J. Tomlin as a four-team conference in Northeast Philadelphia.
Since then, participation has steadily increased to today's record numbers. Over 250,000 youths participated in Pop Warner-sanctioned football programs in 2010, and those numbers are continuing to grow.

All South Charlotte Patriots coaches will be trained and required to complete the USA Football Coach Certification Program on Heads Up Football. Kids compete with kids of similar age and size. Pop Warner is the ONLY youth football program (local, regional and national) that sets and enforces a strict age and weight matrix that reduces the risk and reality of injuries.
Did you know that Pop Warner football is safer than soccer? Pop Warner football has 12% fewer injuries per capita among 5-15 year olds than organized soccer in the same age range! (U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, NEISS)

Pop Warner exists to use football, cheerleading, dance and a respect for education to develop strong, smart, responsible, healthy young men and women. We give them experiences that build their appreciation for and understanding of leadership, teamwork, and discipline.
While individual statistics may be more common, particularly among older football players, Pop Warner only recognizes the athletic accomplishments of the team, not the individual. We don't track personal tallies of touchdowns or yards rushing per game. We don't count sacks or blocked kicks. We applaud the athletic efforts of the team to reinforce the importance of teamwork, with each member.
We don't try to build stars. We don't want to over-inflate a young ego, nor do we want to risk injuring the self-esteem of a young person. Whether our kids have good days or bad, they are still an integral part of our team…and always will be.
