Frequently Asked Questions
What is SCRA Fastpitch?
This is a recreational league designed to provide an environment for the girls to learn the fundamentals of Fastpitch softball and enjoy the camaraderie of playing on a team.
Recreational softball gives all girl's at every skill level a chance to play.
At every age division a player may not sit out 2 consecutive innings per game and every girl bats.
Statistics for the season are kept through Char-Meck but awards are not given for a teams season record. At the end of each season a tournament is held and the 1st and 2nd place teams are determined.
8U & 10U - players are moved around giving them exposure to infield and outfield positions.
10U - players are beginning to focus on 2-3 positions. Coaches are asked to move girls between in/outfield during the 1st 1/2 of season. Second 1/2 of season the girls should be focusing on the positions they are more skilled in; 2-3. This sets the stage for trying out for their middle school teams when they are in 7th grade.
13U and up - same as 10U. Pitching/catching becomes more advanced and coaches are asked to consider player's safety when using less skilled girls on the pitching mound or behind home plate.
The girls will play games against other teams in the Char-Meck Girls Softball League.
What is Char-Meck Softball?
The Char-Meck (CM) girl's softball league has been around for over 15 years providing leadership and structure for softball associations in the greater Charlotte/Mecklenburg area. Click Here to visit the Char-Meck Softball site.
What are the age groups?
We have two seasons (Spring & Fall). The age of play is how old the girls are as of December 31 the previous year for the Spring Season, and June 30 for the Fall Season. The age groups are 6 & Under, 8 & Under, 10 & Under, 13 & Under.
How much does it cost to play and what do the fees cover?
Beginning in 2011, the yearly family fee at SCRA will not be collected. The softball registration fee is $200.00 for all ages. The girls are given a Softball Uniform (jersey, socks, and belt). The rest of the fees help defray the cost of field maintenance, umpires, & equipment.
